BYF Coaches Meeting 6/3/2009 Minutes

BYF Coaches Meeting

June 3, 2009

Present: see attendance sheet dated June 3, 2009.

Meeting was called to order at 7:03pm.

Discussion of having coordinated efforts across the board from Youth to Oxbow as much as possible.  Oxbow numbers are down due mostly to grade issues. If a player is injured during the season, keep them involved in some way. Maybe come down and assist with younger groups...they look up to the older players or they could help with chains, markers and  scoreboard. Mike Tkac suggested that we be consistant with play calls, terminology and universal plays. All in attendance seemed to agree on this matter. Handout given to all in attendance of common information on stance, gaps and numerical alignments.

Goals:

•enforce education, positive coach influences, build confidence, stress that playing is a privilege, start young discussing impact of drinking and tobacco use and ability to play sports under Oxbow policy.

• Have a better division of labor.

• Get more parents involved.

• Talk up the Pass/Punt/Kick Event.

• Next Year: Dartmouth Half-Time

Concerns: 5th graders taking it hard playing both games.  Develop an easier way to label helmets so players can quickly identify theirs when they are used for training.

Coaching Assignments for 2009 season:

• K-3: Rick Parkin – Head Coach

assistant coaches: Dick Bolander, Kevin Borrelli and Steven Carson

• 4-6: Steven Longmoore Jr.- Head Coach

assistant coaches: Carl Senecal, Bruce Towle and Ed White

• 7-8: Mike Tkac – Head Coach

assistant coaches: Alson Bruleigh, Kevin Borrelli, Dan Davis, Scott Morrison, Phil Page, Dan Kelly and Don Rushing

• Cheer: Jayne Giambrone – Head Coach

assistant coach: Laura Gardner

Finger printing and background checks will be done on all adults working with children.

Dick Bolander also created a Bulldog Volunteer Form.

Code of Conducts: A copy of the Coaches Code of Conduct and Coaches Evaluation Form was presented to all in attendance for review and comments. All coaches will need to read, sign and return to Dick Bolander before participation. The coaches evaluations will be done by the parents and/or guardians of the players. This will be done on a yearly basis and will be strongly looked at when deciding if that coach will be allowed to continue coaching the following season.

There was discussion of the parent/player code of conduct and having a pre-condition for playing. For the players protection we will provide helmets, shoulder pads, thigh & knee pads. It will be the coaches responsibility to enforce if a player has no mouthgaurd, no cup, no play policy.

Ridell's coaches seminar: Youth League is free. It is an opportunity to learn more as coaches. Dan Kelly will obtain the date of the coaches seminar and distribute to the coaches.

On Going Concerns: Referees! To become a patched official, it is a 2 yr process with on the job training. There must be at least one patched official at all games 4-8. Other needs are help with sideline responsibilities: down markers, chains, scoreboard, 4 -5 sideline officials. In the past we have relied on pulling adults, friends to the sidelines for help. Dick Bolander will try and arrange a training of sideline responsibilities and talk to parents about becoming more involved in that  process.

Meeting Adjourned at 8:25pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Darlene Sanborn

Board Secretary
